Chemical Concept of CFCs

CFCs which stands for chlorofluorocarbons are compounds that is made up of chlorine, fluorine and carbons. It does not exist naturally but were made extensively due to it being able to act as a refrigerant, solvents and also aerosol propellants. The problem with CFCs mainly is that it destroys the stratospheric ozone but it can also act as a greenhouse gas.

As a result, production of it was brought to a halt and the concentration of CFCs have been declining over the years. However, the atmospheric lifetime of CFCs are at least 100 years and coupled with the fact that it has a very high global warming potential, it is causing the enhanced greenhouse effect.
