Topic Chosen: Biofuel- Ethanol
The chemical concept our group has chosen is Ethanol as biofuel. We chose this topic as we wanted to learn about alternative uses of ethanol. Prior to this, we only knew of ethanol being used in the production of alcoholic drinks and also in cleaning products for its antiseptic properties.
The notion that ethanol can be used as a biofuel sparked great interest among us. Prior to this project, we had not thought of ethanol being used as fuel for energy generation. We also discovered that using ethanol as an alternative energy source may potentially reduce our reliance on fossil fuels. This is especially relevant to us as the global consumption of fossil fuels is increasingly unsustainable. If ethanol can effectively and efficiently replace fossil fuels as an energy source, or to a smaller extent, divert some of our demand for energy away from fossil fuels, we would be able to alleviate the problem of our impending energy crisis.
