Health Effects

The use of drugs can cause many health issues to arise. These health issues can range from the weakening of immune system to drastic hormonal changes in the body. It can also affect the growth of fetus in the mother’s womb. Some babies are born with birth defects and some with withdrawal symptoms.

Accidents and Injuries: Drugs can alter one’s judgement and thinking, making one do reasonless acts that one would not do normally. Drugs can also lead to higher chances of getting serious injuries or death through falling from high buildings or road accidents which could hurt others who are around them.

Internal Organ Damages: Certain internal organs of the nervous, respiratory and digestive systems can be damaged with prolonged use of drugs.

Take for example, marijuana smoking poses harm to the lungs, which is almost 10-fold of cigarette smoking. Smoking 2-3 marijuana cigarettes is proven to have more harmful effects on the lungs and respiratory tract than smoking 20-25 tobacco cigarettes. In addition, the prolonged use of marijuana can also lead to other aspects of brain damage.

Another example is methamphetamine. Being a highly effective drug in nature, it can damage one’s heart. The neuro-receptors will release a huge amount of dopamine once the drug enters a person’s body, resulting in the usual joyous feeling. Effects in the short run include severe alertness, an unending hike of energy and loss of appetite while effects in the long run include high blood pressure, stroke and severe heart issues.
