Grp 25: Application Exercise (08/02/17)

Qn1.

a: Exothermic (Release of heat when burnt)

b: Endothermic (Bonds broken)

c: Endothermic (Bonds broken)

Qn2.

Energy of bonds formed in products > Energy of bonds broken in reactants

Qn3.

Heat is a form of energy while temperature is a measurement that indicates the direction of the heat flow. This means that as hot air is introduced into a room of relatively lower temperature, the hot air will rise to the ceiling of the room while colder air will sink to the bottom of the room; resulting in a heat flow. The final temperature will be reached as the hot and colder air particles interact until an equilibrium is reached. Heat is dependent on the temperature and the original content of air particles present.

Qn4.

a: 98% isooctane and 2% of heptane.

b: The high octane rating means that it’s more oxygenated with less knocking
