Introduction

Petroleum and natural gases are widely used in developed country like Singapore. According to the Energy Market Authority (EMA), Singapore’s Total Final Energy Consumption (TFEC) in 2014 was mainly in the form of Petroleum Products (62% or 8,970 ktoe). This was followed by electricity at 27% (3,990 ktoe) and NG at 9.8% (1,422 ktoe). Usage of petroleum and natural gas have serious implications on our society and the environment. e.g, it can lead to air/water pollution and damages to the natural habitat. In this presentation we will elaborate more on their the chemical concept, the positive and negative implication on the society and environment.

Consumption of petroleum and Natural Gas by sectors (2014)

The lack of fossil fuels in Singapore explains the massive import of energy sources from foreign countries. In 2015, Singapore imported 65.3% petroleum products (113.4Mtoe) and 6.0% natural gas (10.4Mtoe). Energy is mainly consumed by industrial sectors, commerce & services sectors, households and for transportation.
