Introduction

Topic: Stronger and Better Corn Plants?

Why is it important?

As stated by United states department of agriculture, corn is one of the few crops that is produced in large quantities and accounts for a large component in the global coarse-grain trade, which includes barley, oats and many more.Take USA for example, statista reported that world corn production by USA is 361 million metric tons.In addition, corn is widely used in many applications on top of daily human consumption. For example, corn is used to feed cattle, pigs in the USA.Another example would be the ethanol industry in which corn-based ethanol is added to gasoline. This multi-billion industry is extremely beneficial for corn farmers. However, corn crops are often plagued with diseases ,attacks from insects.

With that in mind, it makes sense to invest in research on genetically modifying the corn crops to protect it from external attacks and improve the efficiency of production.
