TOPIC : AIR QUALITY AND YOU

So how well do you know about the air that we breathe in?

First thing let us define what air quality really means

AIR QUALITY is basically referring to the state of air around us. When we say that the air is clean or having a good air quality, it means that the air is unpolluted and clear. A clear example would be when one is at the pinnacle of the Mount Everest.

Poor air quality is due to amount of pollutants high enough that could endanger the life of our living systems and environment. This is often happened in urban areas where factors like emissions of gaseous pollutants from vehicles, factories and etc. Polluted air can further deteriorate a first hand impact for example pollutants released from exhaust of vehicles entering our air could process into formation of acid rain. This acid rain which can further affect our wildlife, vegetation, soil and water. In 2016, it was reported that Zabol in Iran was one of the worst air polluted cities in the world.

So what is exactly air pollutants??

Air pollutants refer to undesirable gas, liquid or solid substances released in our air at a high concentration that would have a direct impact to our health, environment and basically our entire ecosystem. Direct emission of air pollutants are called primary pollutants while secondary pollutants referred to chemically combination of other types of pollutants.

There are several factors that affect the spreading of air pollutants and this include weather, type of air pollutants and also topography. Wind direction is also the main factor in spreading the pollutants and affect our air quality.

In this beautiful city of ours, the National Environment Agency also known as NEA is a public organisation in Singapore responsible for sustaining a clean and green environment of our country. One of the air pollution tracker that Singaporeans depend on is called Pollutant Standard Index (PSI) level where our air quality is being analysed and reported for 24 hrs daily.

In the next section of our blog, we will elaborate further details on our main topic, Air quality and You.

Here are the sneak peek of the contents

Chemical concept branched out into 3 parts

  1. Fresh Air
  2. Gaseous Air Pollutants
  3. Airborne Particles

Implication to society consist of 2 parts

  1. Personal Level
  2. Global Level

NOW LET US MOVE ON TO CHEMICAL CONCEPT~ BELOW IS A DIRECT LINK laughing
