‘Buaian’ is a transformable furniture for users of all age groups. Designed to be a cradle, it allows the user to change the configuration into an armchair when the child grows. People, generally to prevent clutter, tend to dismiss cradles when not needed anymore, Buaian is designed to last and to remain in the family as an important piece of furniture and as a valuable memory.

‘Buaian’ chair is made primarily out of bamboo, rattan and plywood. The concept behind the choice of materials is to create a furniture which carries tradition and modernity. Bamboo and rattan were traditionally a popular choice in the region for their durability while plywood is the favored option today for the industrial and the sustainable aspects of the material. These choices signify a shift towards being environmentally-friendly.

Similarly, the name ‘Buaian’ adopts the idea of traditional and modern-day elements. Buaian is a Malay word for cradle. With the increasing use of English in the population, the English language can be considered as an element of modernity while the conventional Malay language is a mother tongue that is only used natively, giving it a sense of tradition around it.

Hi Ivy,

the ppt seems ok, remember you have only 7 minutes to explain 🙂

I would suggest to explain, at the ‘ideation & sketches’ slide, that your explorations went from the multifunctional to the transformable, which is more associated with the idea of growth

Ok your materials research, explain that the final choice will influence the structure and the design details. In the slide ‘what’s next’ you have to point it out in the first line.

Hi Fabrizio,

Thank you for your feedback. I will explain how are the referential works represent guidelines for my future work during the presentation. I changed the slide about the FYP schedule in giving more details about what I will be doing monthly and I corrected my typo haha.

hi Ivy, just few comments below

1) when you put referential works you better explain why are important for you and how they represent guidelines in your future work. 2) objectives ok. 3) outcomes ok. 4) schedule, can u be more detailed, maybe breaking down in weeks considering also what will be at midterm presentation and what at final sem 1. 5) biography ? isn’t it bibliography?
